I accidentally posted this in the wrong forum..so mods if you see the one in pain management you can delete if needed...i couldn't figure out how!

I am now officially a neckie and backie..boohoo!
Hi all! For some reason I cannot log into chat tonight it won't let me...so I will post an update here...
For those of you that know me I have a history of lumbar problems (see below for that history). Well anyway, for the past 2 months I have been havving pretty back pain in between my shoulder blades and so the PM doc wanted to do an MRI.
Turns out, I am now a spiney, neckie AND a "hippy" (I will explain the hippy in a second, lol).
I have 2 herniated disks and one bulging disk in the cervical area and also 2 degenerating disks. He said the disks are not close to inpinging and nerves but can definately be causing my pain..so we are going to try more injections. PM doc is hopeful for the injections in my neck, as the lumbar ones were not successful because of all of the scar tissue, bone growth and metal from my previous surgeries. So with the cervical he is going into a fresh slate and is hoping the ESI injection will totally resolve the pain.
As for my "hippy" status, I had an order for an X-ray on my hips from months ago that I forgot to get done and so I did them last week with my MRI. I have pretty bad arthritis in BOTH hips. I told him I am not worried about that pain right now, as my lumbar and cervical are enough to keep me busy! But he did say there are injections that can help hip pain as well.
Anyway, I really wanted to thank everyone for the support you give all the time in chat! Each and every one of you have become good friends!
Sorry for the long update!
Talk to you soon!

  • Emily,

Normally when someone becomes new to a group or club you say welcome and congratulations. However, this is not club to want to be part of. You sure have a rough way to go there. I sure hope you can get some pain relief from the injections and they resolve your problems. Your not supposed to be getting worse but better so you can plan that wedding. Although I have been waiting to hear how these turned out for you I was hoping that it wouldn't involve your cervical spine. Bring the injections so you can get back to planning that wedding and no more painting. Time for bells and babies. No more getting hurt. Hope you feel better soon, emily. Catch you in chat.
  • into the neckie and hippie clubs. As tamtam says, not a good thing, but heck, we have to laugh and joke when we can, cause this stuff isn't fun at all!

I have had two lumbar surgeries and have been back to work full time for about 6 weeks now. My neck, shoulders, arms, and hands have been giving me fits since coming back to work too! My low back is a mild ache at times or just tightens up if I stand too long so I'm considering it "fixed" at the moment. My neck on the other hand, is being a totally aggravating and painful thing! I haven't had a shot in the neck yet and hope that my soon visit with a new neurosurgeon doesn't suggest that. I had several in my lumbar over the years until the pain just got so bad I couldn't handle it anymore. I hate steriods with a passion. But I have also gotten injections in my knees too. They are a bandaid that sometimes lasts for awhile and sometimes don't. Steriod are so bad over time to our systems and bodies though.

I hope you get relief with them for a good long time. Sounds like you are getting married? That's a great thing to take your mind off the pain and stuff, if you can? Congrats!

I feel your pain. Keep us posted on how the neck shots go and what that's like?
