Pain in Bed when Laying Down. Anyone with Spondyloarthropathy or Facet Joint Disease?

Please Explain How you feel and your symptoms if you have Facet Joint Pain or Spondyloarthropathy.
My Recet Mri showed mild Spondyloarthropathy.
When I'm in Pain I don't feel it's Mild, But it was labeled mild on my Recent MRI,,,,
My Pain started with severe Muscle Spasms or a Lock in my Lower Back Everytime I got up from laying down. I would remain Hunched over Unable to straighten up Straight. Once I was straight it was fine. This Repeat itself over andf over again. Now the Pain has Shifted. When I lie down after several minutes or sometimes even after hours in Bed I wake up with a burning or a heavy weight feeling on my lower back (No Leg Pain). This usually wakes me around 2-3am everynight. It gets heavy & it's hard to roll over or turn when laying down without experiencing major Pain. No Position helps, Pillows, my Side, Nothing. It does feel like laying on my stomach or Back makes it worse though! I just had my first Epidural on Monday with some Relief & I'm still Waiting for the Real Effect to take effect in a couple more days. You can Read my Experience of the Epidural on another Post. I Personally won't do it Again....
I got the Tens unit several weeks ago(it's Great kinda like acupuncture or light massage) also another Exercise Ball to stretch my Lower Back (it hurts but feels good too & stretches the lower back muscles).
7months Now & My Pain has Shifted. It's Now carrying on throughout the Day. It first only occured when I got up from Bed or Laying Down in Bed.
Pain is Only on my Lower Back I have no Pain Radiating to my Legs ort Anywhere Else.
I want to Thank all who Responded to my very First Post. They all Suggested it was My Facet Joints before the Dr. even suggested it. Now Mri finally determined it was my Facet Joints. Thanks to All and this Forum!

  • It seemed anytime I tried to lay flat on my stomach my facet joints would flare up and I would end up in a bent over position as you described. I also have trouble laying flat on my back. I have to bend my knees or put a pillow under my legs. I also have to put a pillow under my stomach if I have to lay flat for any reason such as PT. The pain is unbearable and I would be stuck either lying on the floor or in the bent over position until I was able to have my husband grab my pain meds and I would take a dose then have to try to relax the best I could for at least 20-30 mins until pain meds kick in. Like you mentioned it's like a locked up feeling. Even after fusion, I still experience this pain it's just not as bad as it was before surgery.

  • Have you had facet joint injections? I found the 1st and 2nd set pretty painful but Wednesday I hardly felt anything but the epidural felt bad and he couldn't inject the whole amount in because I said my arm felt numb but I think it was my iv went interstial. I was upset I didn't get the whole med and wonder why it was so painful this time. It was my 5th time. I just walked around the block without my cane but the 2nd block I needed my cane. Did you say you had facet joint injections yet? Take care. Charry
