I have suffered from neck issues since 1999. I was in a head on collison. They never did any type of imaging. I only suffered a few times a year with neck pain and muscle spasms. This summer, I fell of my bike. I have suffered since. My neck is always hurting and my shoulder and neck muscles are in constant spasm I spent many hours in the md's office for advice. I only recieved reassurance that it will get better on it's own. No interventions. Needless to say I switched MD's (I am with Kaiser)after I noticed that my right shoulder and right side of my neck muscle is bulky. My right shoulder now sits higher than my left. The new MD immediatly noticed and asked if this was congenital. After sharing my frustration and story she tried injecting a numbing and steriod medication into the muscle. She stated that the right muscle is full of fibrous tissue. It is hard to push the needle through. I am waiting for my MRI and the end of this month. I am scared. I have episodes where I feel like someone has wrapped rubberbands around my left arm and leg there is an intense throbbing followed by tingleing/ice cold. I have a noticable deformity of my right shoulder. I am in pain and now I feel like someone has wrapped a rubberband around my neck. Has anyone else had this type of problem with their shoulder and neck muscle? Will it go back to it's normal shape.

  • I did not add in that I have tried several muscle relaxers without relief. I cannot touch the base of my cerivcal spine on the right side. When I do it shoots intense pain in all directions. I feel like this is what my muscles are guarding.
  • boy art , i feel bad for you. i know how you feel with the neck and shoulder, for i have been having a rough time with rotary cuff surgery myself last aug. 2008. neck issues still. i also have been diagnosed with RSD. you should really know more with an MRI, but you should be referred to a specialist like an orthopedic surgeon, who deals with this kind of thing all the time. sometimes a general m.d. does not know. you doc should have already known something else was going on when your shoulder is not level, a steroid injection is just for inflammation, and will not be getting to the root of the problem. i hope you get your MRI soon! then get the help you need, you poor thing, having to suffer like that. let us know what you find out and welcome to spine health Leo
