I know I havent posted on here since I introduced myself but I was riding the roller coaster of pain. I was still trying to work and my days off were hell trying to recover frm over doing it. But I had my microD last week and my leg pain is better but Im still so uncomfortable!! wow! I guess I was excepting it to be as easy as my husband made it look, boy was I so wronge!

those of you who had it done already was 1 week post op still very uncomfortable for you? Did u lay on your back? or your side? I went to the store yeseterday for the first time.... that was kinda interesting. People look at you different when u have a cane and use an electric wheel chair and ur still very young.

Well I need to get outta the recliner and get my daughter off to school. I plan on visiting more in the next 6 weeks or so that Im out of work :)

  • Due to inflamation and swelling, I was absolutely crippled for 4 weeks after my L5-S1 md. I mean I literally had to stay in bed and not move very much.
That was not the case for my L4-L5 md done a year earlier.
After that one, I was up and around right away.

An ESI into L5-S1 resolved the situation quickly. Obviously, everyone's case is unique.

Anyways, prior to the op, I was on crutches, and you're right. I did notice people treated me different. Everyone was very nice! Total strangers would rush to open doors for me, offer to carry things for me, curious about the injury.
Everyone assumed it was a knee injury.

    Interesting social observations.

  • I wasn't in too much discomfort except when I had to get up from a lying position. That was a pain! I am three weeks postop and I am very careful how I get off the couch or the bed.

Keep posting on your recovery! Good luck!
  • im 5 months post op l5-s1 micro and i take advil at night and wear a lumbar suport because at night i hurt but fine during the day. My doc laugh and said that was weird but its not bad enough to cause alot of conserne just cannt get comfortable on back or side yuk. I hope you feel better jen. I was walking through the stores the day after surgery lucky for me. It was winter when i had mine done couldnt walk outside so i went to the stores and wandered around lol sound wierd while i type it but thats what i did to walk the distance and time i was supposed to. Get better ALL
  • Glad you're sloooooowly getting better Jen. It's hard to know what will happen after surgery since it's so different for everyone. Take it easy now that you're off. :D

I'm curious about positions too. Right now (pre-surgery) I can't find any good ones! I'd love for that to NOT be the case after surgery (tomorrow)...but I know that probably isn't very realistic.

BTW Jen, my surgeon is using staples too...how are they? I was hoping for suchers and steri-strips.
  • There not to bad now that its a week later. But I never even asked what he was using i was just ready to have it done. But I wish he would of used something different.

    Good Luck with your surgery!!
  • So, you got your staples out right??? How'd that go??? I'm really nervous to get mine out on 5/12. How's everything else going???
