~X( Ok, so I have intense, constant, sharp pain on both sides of my right shin bone, nothing lower than the ankel. I also have the same along the side of the right hip.

Doctors seem puzzled as there is No numbness or tingling and nothing down the back of the leg. MRI shows DDD and Stenosis. They want to EMG to zero in as the MRI (they say) does not tell all.

I've tried PT and it hurt more, I will do epidurals because of a bad experience years ago.

Anybody have this "not-Sciatica" burn in the shin & hip?

  • Is it non-sciatic? I would also request a leg ultrasound(dopplers) And xrays of your leg. I've had leg ultrasound twice and xrays. I also have arthritic pain that burns as well as sciatica from a herniated disc. If you have DDD and stenosis it could cause pain if DDD is in the lumber area. Check out dermatones for the areas on your legs from the discs bothering you. Do you have any backpain? I hope you get some answers for the pain you're having ice/heat may help . Are you on meds for the pain? I hope you can get some pain relief. They may try nerve meds to see if that alleviates the pain also. I've heard of myofascial release massage and nerve blocking may help. Take care. Charry
DDD of lumbar spine with sciatica to left hip,leg and foot. L4-L5 posterior disc bulge with prominent facets, L5-S1 prominent facets with a posterior osteocartilaginous bar. Mild bilateral foraminal narrowing c-spine c4-c7 RN
  • One doc x-rayed my hip and shin, but he was a pcp and never suspected the spine (?). I got (one-time) meds from the Neurologist (can't deal with the nerve meds).

Most "pain" docs here (I've been to 2 thus far) are epidural freaks and won't write prescriptions, so, no, no relief here.
  • Welcome to the board.

It sounds like you have one of those collections of symptoms that are confusing.

Do you know where the DDD and stenosis are located? What type of doctor gave you that diagnosis?

Are you being treated by a spinal specialist?

Please provide a bit more information.
  • DDD is T1-S1 "severe" Stenosis is L2 & L5. A Neurologist gave the diagnosis. No Spine specialist at this time.
