Hi, I'm Steph

I'm 26 years old and I have Spinal Stenosis, as well as arthritis. I have been lurking on the message board for a bit, to help me determine whether or not I am going to get the PLIF done. MY first doctor said I was fine... 2 others said I needed it. All I know is that this stinks! I sit at my desk and work and cry because it hurts so bad in my lower back and down my leg. Its even effecting my bathroom habits! I look forward to hearing your stories and I kindly take any advice you might have. Have a lovely day! :)))

The Spine-Health Web site offers so much more than these Member Forums.
Check the various tabs at the top of the Spine-Health page and you will find so much that is offered here.

Please remember that all information you receive from members on this forum is NOT
formal medical advise. You should always consult with your doctors.

I guess the only way I can say this, is that without more information it is difficult to offer any particular informal advice. In addition to your Stenosis problems, do you have any particular disc problems. What has been the results of any MRI or other diagnostic testing? You mention a herniated disc, which one ? for how long?
Stenosis can be painful and stubborn. But there are non surgical treatments that can help manage the pain. You might have been through all of these, but as I said, without more information, its hard to say.
The more information you can provide, the easier it is for other members to offer their personal experiences

  • hi and welcome to the forum! :H we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. i am sorry you are hurting so much. ~X( have you tried any of the nerve pain medications for your leg pain? :? talk to your doctor about it. :-C anytime you are having bathroom problems, it is time to see a doctor right away!!!! this is nothing to let lurk around!!! good luck and please keep us informed! :D Jenny :)
  • You might want to check out the surgery section to see others that have undergone the surgery. I have severe arthritis of the facet joints and do get some relief with a rhizotomy. My own personal feeling is that I would try all conservative treatments available before opting for surgery. If surgery fails, there is no reversing it where as if you do conservative treatments and they fail there is always the option of surgery as a last resort. Good luck.
  • yes defo see doc, that was one of the questions i was asked, any change in bathroom bits, welcome anyways jan x
  • I am reschedling my PLIF surgery for some time in late MAy or Early June. I have dealt with the potty issues so long I have almost gotten used to it... At my age and without any major health issues other than my back, the doctor says laminectomy and fusion are the best option for me. The doctor doing my surgery will be my THIRD opinion. 2 out of three is pretty good odds, so I will go with that. My original doctor who did the diskectomy, took a look at my MRI and said I was fine! Even with those issues! He is now no longer my doctor. I have stopped taking my vicodin and have been surviving totally on Tylenol (freaking ouch!)in preparation for the surgery so that I will be better able to enjoy the pain meds I get after my surgery.I will go and take a look at the surgery boards now. Thanks!
