Hi, I too have been dealing with Shingles pain for almost two years now, It took almost a year to figure out what was wrong with me. My pain first started in the back of my neck, I could hardley hold my neck up, then the pain started moving to the side of my neck it almost felt like i had a very painful swollen gland. I started out going to a ear nose and throat specialist, he didnt know what to do with me, had several ct scans done and mri's. They couldn't find nothing I was glad in some sense, then the pain started down my neck and esophagus area underneath my left chest and back around to the center of my back along with weakness and just an over all of not feeling well. Then I had deep stabbing pain in my back that came all the way around to the front of my chest. So I went to heart doctor and neurologist, the neuro gave me exercises to do to fix the problem and the heart doctor said everything looked fine. Once again I was hitting another blank wall, Everywhere I went I was getting the run around nobody new anything and it was pretty difficult not knowing why I felt so terrible and nobody seemed to have an answer. I have to tell you after just searching the website with my symptoms, that is how I found out it was shingles. I had to convince my pain doctor that was what is going on. I have had 3 steroid shots in my back that helped for about a month but I still had to take pain medicine. I hate feeling like i have the flu everyday as far as my body feeling crummy along with the burning pain all over my back and you feel like someone is squeezing you so tight around the chest it is crushing you. I take hydrocodone for the pain everyday about 3 to 4 times a day just to have some form of normalicy and time free from the pain. I have tried all the other stuff out there that they give you for shingles pain and none of it has worked. I feel like a druggy and I hate having to go back to the pain management center every month and say the same thing over and over. I feel like I am begging for drugs just to keep from hurting. So those of you out there dealing with this you are not alone. I just continue to pray and Thank God for my healing. I do believe that God will heal me. I know He is faithful. I don't understand sometimes why we have to go thru the trials that we do. But, I do know God has never let me down and I will never give up believing By His Stipes I am HEALED. Don't ever loose hope. God cares for you and He will make away!! Amen and Amen

  • I hope you get some relief of your post neuropathy from shingles. Have you tried nerve pain meds like amitriptyline or lyrica as I use those for sciatica. I also will be switching to cymbalta which is also a nerve pain med and an antidepressant. Take care. Charry

  • I was diagnosed w/ post-herpetic neuralgia a couple years ago. Told the doc I hadn't had shingles; did some research and learned that, in rare cases, it's possible to have it w/out the rash. I've had SOME success w/ the neurontin, but I still have a lot of pain on a daily basis. I hope you're able to get some relief from this condition.
  • Woo-hoo! :H

How about that feeling of steel wool scrap and burning when something just brushes up against the areas where the shingles were!!?? Lovely.

  • Yep, the tingling, burning, itchy under the skin sensation-need I say more??? :''(
  • HI, I have had a problem with an "itch" for several years on my upper back....Now I noticed that when I take my shower and the water hits this area I get a TERRIBLE pain...I looked at my back and found nothing. I tried touching the area with the end of a comb (lightly) and again this pain!!!! WOW...So when I was at my Dermatologist I mentioned it to him and he just said I can't see anything so I can't treat it. Then I was at my Dr.s and she checked out my back and didn't see anything either. BUT I still will get the pain when I shower and the water hits this spot. And I seem to feel something inside that hurts.
I was wondering if this could be a Shingle? I also have an autoimmune disease - Hashimotos Thyroiditis. I didn't know if this had anything to do with shingles..
