Using exercise ball; should I worry about arthritis?

At the advice of my chiro, I'm using a large exercise ball to keep my low back loose, by sitting atop it and basically rotating my pelvis around a vertical axis. Think of someone stretching their neck, but I'm doing it with my pelvis.

It seems to help relieve some of my chronic pain, but for each rotation I also feel a very dull "crack" or "pop" at my L5-S1 (source of pain). I do about 40 rotations, x1 per day.

Should I be concerned about this exercise causing or compounding future potential arthritis problems?

    You are doing this under advice and instruction from a practitioner and for me not doing activity could do you more harm in the future than doing none. Pacing will be the key and one might expect some reasonable adjustment in acceptance of doing this specific type of exercise and you are doing a good job which will help you now and in the future. We all have some trepidation when doing something new and should embrace increasing activity where possible.

    It is a balance of doing what is right for you and finding that level of function that provides benefit without unnecessary risk, perhaps you could keep the rotation at this level for the same time and see what happens and discuss your specific concerns with the person who suggested doing these in the first place. Ask your specific question to them.
