It is comforting to know there is a whole network out there.

After nearly 20 years with neck pain, I resolved to take more aggressive action and just days ago I had C4-C6 fusion surgery. I have been seeing chiropractors for pain and discomfort for many years, and credit them for extending the time without surgical intervention.

Before surgery, I relied on Mobic, Tylenol, Soma, ice, heat, sauna, and exercise to keep my pain in check. I finally had an MRI which showed "Spur Complex C5-6" for starters and lots more.

Now, after surgery, I am experiencing much pain due to radiculopathy.

Can the group make suggestions about sleep positions with the neck brace? I am desperate to find the right combination of position and pillow and any observations will help.

  • Welcome to Spine-Health. You've discovered an awesome forum with fantastic people.

I'm glad that you were able to stave off surgery for so long. Has your surgeon told you that your nerve damage is permanent?

Assuming that you are referring to a hard collar, I slept in my recliner for the first week or two. I couldn't lay flat, it kind of choked me and was very uncomfortable. I think that after you get used to it, it's easier to find ways to get comfortable. Do you know when your surgeon will switch you to a soft collar?

Again, welcome to SH. Feel free to PM me if you have questions or just want to vent.
