Hi all. I had lumbar spinal fusion 13 days ago. I have my first follow up appt June 1. Is it normal to wait that long before seeing the doctor after major surgery?
Thanks for any replies.

  • grant it all docs are different but generally 2 wks post-op. Obviously from discharge until then they expect you to call as needed. At the 2 week mark they can assess where you are...activity, no temps, wound site appearance as by then most swelling should be down and pain levels.

welcome to the site you will find it to be helpful and entertaining while you recover. You will probably get sick of going back to the docs...lol as they do frequent x-rays up until 3 mon then at the 6 mon mark and usually at the 1 yr

take care of yourself!!!! :D >:D<

  • hi and welcome to the site. i hope you find it as helpful as i do.
in my experience, its normal to wait 2-3 weeks for your follow up appt. up until that point you will be laying pretty low and allowing your body to recover and heal. in the meantime, if you have problems or concerns, you should call your surgeon's office.
good luck and keep us updated!
