I was told I'm having acd surgery, yet also told I will need to fuse??? I have to call my doctor, but what is the difference between the two surgeries???

ACD Anterior Cervical Disectomy. It is a surgery done when bone spurs are large and the doctor fell that no bone fusion is necessary. It should also have a shorter recovery period then an ACDF. People that do have this surgery, really show no signs of spinal instability.

    ACDF Anterior Cervical Disectomy Fusion.
So basically the biggest difference is in the fusion process. The injured disc is removed and the bone graft helps to provide stability.

  • I searched it on google not to feel really ignorant. I am guessing that one is fused by metal or artificial disk and the other is fused by your own bone???
