Okay, so here's the situation. I'm currently 21 years old and suffering from chronic back pain. I'm not sure what exactly the source of the pain is. My father has always had back problems, and I know I don't have the best posture. I might have some form of scoliosis.
The pain itself is pretty sporadic. I'd say I suffer from pain more often than not, but the area that hurts seems almost completely random -- sometimes upper back, sometimes lower. I recently purchased a better computer chair, since that's where I spend the bulk of my time, and that has relieved my pain a bit. I live in student apartments, so I'm sure I don't have the best mattress around. Would you guys recommend some sort of padding? Buying a new mattress altogether?
I've never sought professional help for my pain, but I would like to soon. Sometimes the pain is just too much to bear. Can I contact a specialist immediately, or do I need to see a regular doctor first?
I guess I'm basically just looking for any tips you guys have for treating back pain. I'm new to this whole chronic pain thing, and I'm really just not sure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
