Hello all,

I just came across this site and thought I would give it a try. Okay I am a 32 year old male that has moderate to severe back and leg pain. This has been ongoing for about 7 years. I have been through a long list from doctors and medications. If you name the medicine I most likely have taken it.

I have been to orthopedic, nurologist, pediatrist, chiropractors, accupuncture and of course pain management.
To date the all have run tests and come back good. but it is noticed by all that the muscles in my back are extremely tight. With the exception of pain management who states the nerves in the facet joints are inflammed. Then comes the shots muscle relaxers and pain meds. Which by the way I cant take any longer becuase of addiction and besides it only makes it worse in the long run for me.

So I have been through the mill with all this and I desperatly need some guidance as I said 32 years old. I have a family and work with my hands. Barely making it in this crazy world.

If you have any ideas they would be greatly appreaciated

Christopher Dempsey

  • sorry you have had continued pain in your muscles and you have certainly seen enough specialists. I just wonder why the physical therapist is missing from your list. Your dr.s have all mentioned your muscles are tight. In my 40 years of trying to address pain i would have to say physical therapy was the most important tool i ever encountered.
could you describe the pain symptoms in your legs and also specify where in your legs you feel the pain. here's a list of discomfort symptoms that might help describe your sensations

    pins and needles
like i hit my funny bone

also...do you do any exercise or sports. if so what kind?
    thanks, pete
  • Hey Christopher -

Man, I feel for you bro and it looks as though you've run the course as far as options are concerned. If any surgical option at this point is not warranted, I wonder if the most prudent course of action wouldn't be for you to get in the best possible physical shape you could...which would certainly serve to strengthen your core and provide the necessary ingredient to keeping your issues under control.

You're situation reminds me of a good friend of mine, who at age 35 had many back issues that were muscle related and there were a couple structural problems as well...and he decided to take-up martial arts (Tae-kwon-do specifically) as a way to deal with it. There was a lot of stretching involved which helped keep him limber and of course there's the cardio aspect which helps too, and then the self-discipline aspect was important...to make a long story short, he's a black-belt now and has all kinds of trophy's etc. to show for his hard work and best of all, hasn't had a single back issue for many years!!

Just a thought but perhaps something like that would work for you, since your options are otherwise limited. Take care and all the best to ya -

  • have you tried a good TENS ? i use the acticare its very good .also have you seen your doctor for some good pain killers?
    good luck chris
