In December I had my second discectomy on L4/5 on left side, pinched sciatic nerve. My first surgery was ten years ago L4/5 on right side, same thing from a car accident. I healed fine from first surgery until last year when my lower back started killing me. Now in July 7 months after surgery I am in lots of pain. On both sides of my spine about 2-3 inches on left and right it feels like I have 2 rocks in my back. All of my pain is coming from these two points. I cannot do anything physical or stand for more than 10 minutes. Chopping celery or veggies for example will cause my muscles there to seize or clench up and I cannot stand up straight I walk like a 90 yr old man hunched over in pain. Even if I do nothing besides walk around a little it is just an annoying pain. Last week I helped carry some boxes in from the garage for 30 minutes of work and was hunched over in pain for 3-4 days. After demanding another MRI which came back clean no scar tissue disc looks good. I have done physical therapy, deep tissue massage which put me in more pain. My surgeon does not believe in PM docs as he says all they do is shove pills down your throat. Which would be welcomed since he hasn't prescribed me anything for pain since april. He says its a deep muscle problem on my nerve roots!! But won't help with the pain? I have asked and called for him to fax a referral to a local PM. It's been two weeks no progress. If I move the wrong way bending down it shoots severe pain into my low back almost bringing me to my knees. The day after surgery he told me it was the largest piece of disc fragment he's pulled out of anyone and he couldn't find it at first it was buried in my muscles and compared it to pulling a marlin out of the ocean. And he wonders why I'm having problems with my low back muscles? Any advice would be great! As I try to contact Dr. Evil and his spawns to fax my referral. Thanks all.
