Looking for people that have had Mechanical Pain

I am scheduled to have injections by my screws on Aug 17th to see if it is what is causing my pain. I feel like it might be, because extra motion or riding in car etc. flares me up really bad.

Anyone tell me there experience with hardware problems and if so, what did they do? My Dr is talking taking it out.

  • My nerve pain and lower back pain was mostly "mechanical" after my fusion. Sitting and bending exacerbated my symptoms in the first couple of months. I used to be able to calm everything down by laying down but now the nerve issues are getting worse. I had a hardware block last week and it helped the pain by about 85% and although it was not supposed to help the nerve pain it calmed all the nerve pain that I have across my bum. I do believe that hardware is a major part of my post-surgical pain but it is too early to have it taken out. Although I am fusing well, I am told I need to wait another 6 months. I am not sure I can do this.

I hope you will post your hardware block results and let us know if you have your hardware taken out. I hope you find a solution to resolve your pain.

  • Have you heard of Voltaren Gel? My NS gave it to me on my last apt. so we could try and pinpoint if my constant backache was from the hardware.

I just rub it on my scar site - to see if it takes away the back pain. It's an anti-inflammatory.

From what I understand, if the gel works, then the hardware must be creating inflammation that can possibly be solved by removing it.

Rubbing on a topical NSAID is a lot less invasive than an injection - no harm in asking, right?
