Starting this thread to record my thoughts on surgery and a (hopefully) quick recovery.
Just got the call today from my Dr.'s surgical coordinator that I am now pre-certified with the insurance company. I go in on Thursday morning for pre-op lab work, and barring any issue I should be good to go. Impressed with Dr. office so far - they've been very organized and professional, which helps ease some of my stress. At this point, I'm basically fearful of the recovery. The surgery actually seems rather straightforward and there is a great 1 hr. video on google video of this surgery if anyone is curious.
Also had a good talk again with coordinator on my choice of allograft (cadaver) bone vs. autograft. In researching found out that my doc apparently authored the study finding that in single level fusions with a plate the fusion rate is essentially identical between allograft and autograft. What I found very interesting was they were very firm in NOT recommending allograft for the lower spine...because my brother had multiple lumbar fusions with cadaver and had major issues.
Any event...now to continue the waiting game for a few more days...2 more days at work, I'm set with 4-weeks off of work starting Monday...and Tuesday I guess I become "one with the la-z-boy!"
