Hi Fellow Spineys,
As I have been trying to accept the reality of my "new life" I have been coming to this site more and more frequently, and you all have been a tremendous help. In 2003 I had L2-L4 laminectomy/fusion. Now L4-L5 disc is shot and L5-S1 disc is shot with spondylolithsesis. Surgeon and second opinion both say fusion only solution. First fusion was through the back. This fusion my surgeon wants to go through the front so there is less surgery time/recovery time, etc. However, if done from the front successfully I will have to wear a soft brace for about 6 months (ugh).
What I would like to hear from any of you is:
If you had to wear a soft/corset brace, how was it? Bearable, unbearable? Don't sugar coat it, I need to mentally prepare.
Also, I'm sure some of you out there have 4 levels in the lumbar fused together: How is your life going with just the day-to-day stuff. I don't expect much mobility, I guess I just want an idea of what I will be in for and maybe what I can do before the surgery in my home, and mentally, etc to make it easier on myself for the long haul.
Thank you in advance for any insight you can give me. Please, don't soft-pedal anything.
BTW, I am 43 year old female with a 4 and 7 year old and very helful husband and a 9 month old dog (stupid idea, but we love her). Also will need a cervical 3 level fusion in the future, but thats for another time!
