Post cervical spine fusion surgery question

Hi everyone! I had a cervical spine fusion with titanium plate and screws and a bone donor graft done on April 3rd. I have had a hard time of it as far as getting back to work and dealing with a whole lot of post op troubles. My main problem this past week has been ear, jaw and frontal neck pain just on the right side of my body. I went to my regular doc and he said that it is not an ear infection, or anything like that. Everything seems clear. He was afraid I was having an brain bleed and did a CAT scan. I thought that was a little overkill...and it turned out okay, all clear on the brain thing. But, my main pain is I can not lay down in bed without this horrible pain. When I am up and sitting, it is a tolerable pain, but it is there. I decided to try putting ice on the back of my neck last night and taking tylenol and that actually helped the jaw and ear pain and the frontal neck pain. So, I am now concerned that something is wrong with my fusion and that is why I am having this problem. Does anyone have any advice?

  • i had ACDF C56 9/99 & ACDF & ACC C4-7 7/01 the pain you describe is familiar to some of mine. i think our spine gets out of alighnment and throws our face bones out of align too. my dentist suggested i try a mouth piece when i sleep and i got a little relief also ice on back of the neck helps me.
