Had lumbar fusion 2 years ago complete with rods and pins-relieved foot and leg pain.Did not have much back pain before surgery.Trying to walk more and increase activity level.Back feels like it has a brick in it filled with pins.Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone had their hardware removed that resulted,in a decrease in back pain.

  • I get the same feeling in my back, always feels like something is there. A few months ago, I was contemplating asking about hardware removal too. Its not as bad as it was so I don't know if I care to go through another surgery.

    Best wishes to you,

  • I had my hardware removed last Fri. but it is too soon to know much. I would check with your Dr and Ins Co to see if they will take it out if it isnt pain related. I dont know cause I had mine out because of terrible pain, and my ins co was gonna fight me until they found out I am in severe pain. Good Luck.
  • I am curious as to the type of pain you had before removal. I had an L5/S1 fusion with screws and rods and any kind of pressure on the hardware causes great pain. Sitting more than 10 minutes cause pain.

I am living a life of misery with the pain and meds, but scared to death to have my hardware removed. I do not see many postings from people in a similar sitituation as mine and documented positive results after removal.

Thanks & best of luck to you.
