UGH! I now have a giant hole in my back ... and I do mean giant. I can stick my (sanitary) finger straight in up to the knuckle and whirl it around without hitting anything! Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks. --Dorothy

  • you have got to be kidding...is this really happening. i have had surgeries and never had that happen. and please dont put the finger in there. you may think its clean but i doubt it. get to er and have it cleaned out and restitched. the last thing you need is an infection....pete
  • I see your surgery was over a month ago. Haven;t you been back to the surgeon since surgery? I agree with Paul call the exchange and GO TO THE ER. MRSA IS NOTHING TO PLAY WITH. Don't put your finger in it anymore you could be doing tons of damage.
  • Put a sterile dressing over it and go to the ER!

  • I had a tumor the size of a grapefruit removed from my back (superficial, benign) 18 years ago. about 2 weeks after my stapels were removed it popped open, scared me to death, there was a lot of fluid that cmae out, i thought it was blood abd that i was going to bleed to death. I put a towel over it and drove myself to the ER, they cleaned it and decided to just "butterfly"stitch it back. This way there was less chance of infection. It turned out fine, just made the scar thicker.
  • Yes , I agree greatly with Paul ,go to ER
I know this was a couple of hours ago,and I hope your not reading this at this moment and your at hopital, good=luck Dorothy
  • The surgeon is the one who told me it had popped open. He sees me every week, and I also see a wound-care doctor every week. I only know my finger will go in the hole because I have to pack the opening with strips of sterile gauze every day ... which I have to stick in with my finger (*extremely* well washed!). I was just wondering if anyone else had this happen, how long it takes to heal, etc. Thanks for your concern, everyone! --Dorothy
  • Perfect example of how info in a post (or any other online communication) can come across the wrong way!

Hope you don't take too long to heal.

    Best wishes to you,

  • Open wound healing can take quite a while. It all depends on the size, shape, location and depth of the wound. One of the best things that you can to in order to promote wound healing and closure, is a diet designed specifically for wound healing. I was sent to a nutrition specialist for diet consultation to help me with open wound healing. There are specific supplements and foods that promote healing.

Can you get your doc to give you a referral to a nutritionist?
