Left leg lock-up

Last night at work I started to walk and my left leg locked up starting at the front/top of thigh and shot down to my ankle. the pain was so bad and about every other step I took it would lock up. I was afraid I was going to fall. Some of the time it pulled/hurt in left side of my groin. I just kept on trying to walk it out off and on during the evening and it didn't go away until sometime during the night. I'm assuming it was spasms but I have never felt anything so painful. I do take a muscle relaxer at night. Needless to say it scared me.

    The following is an exerpt I copied from a website for natural remedies:


    Lotion containing Arnica will help relieve cramps and spasms when rubbed on the afflicted muscle. Eucalyptus oil is also used as a remedy for this trouble. It should also be rubbed onto the aching area. Do not use if pregnant. Also, do not put this oil on your skin at full strength. It can cause irritation if not diluted.

    Another natural remedy is to make use of vinegar. Add several cups of vinegar to a hot bath to soak away cramps, spasms, and tension. In addition, a compress of apple cider vinegar applied to the area of the troubled muscle can help relieve the symptoms. Vinegar can also be combined with honey to use to help relieve muscle problems. Combine equal amounts of each to make a drink. It is thought that this remedy also works for arthritis by distributing calcium deposits throughout the bloodstream, which relieves muscle cramps.

    If the cramps are induced by vigorous exercise, it helps to take a long, hot bath immediately after the activity. In addition, taking a cold bath while moving the muscles that tend to cramp will help as well. This should be done directly before going to bed. This seems to help with sports related cramps that afflict athletes during the night.

    Oil from both German and Roman chamomile can be used as a remedy for cramps. It can be added to tea to be taken internally. It can also be used as a massage oil to help bring relief. Fennel oil can also be used to massage away aches and pains. Do not use either of these oils if you are pregnant.

    Make a salve or diluted tincture of Calendula to relieve muscle spasms, sprains, or pulled muscles. Add a bit of Garden Thyme to your bath to soak in to relieve cramps. This works best if the bath is very warm. Peppermint tea brings a welcome relief from muscle spasms and cramps. Do not use these herbs if you are pregnant.

    :D Drinking tonic water also helps. Bananas for potassium.

    Anyway, just wanted to give you some encouragement that you may be able to manage your "locked up" leg. I know it's frustrating.

    I have used lavender and vinager of course not together. and I forgot about vinegar. I haven't used my wondeful tub for a couple of months. I need to get back to using it. Thanks for reminding me. I also need a suggestion what I can do at work when this happens. I work retail at a large nationwide lumber store and of course I'm suppose to stand but my pt wrote a request to accomodate me w/chair which I have. I get aches pains and cramps all the time so I keep a hard ball in my pocket so I can sometimes rub my legs. This last time could get no relief and it also affected my lowerback. I have days I never complain about pain because it doesn't do any good, nothing can be done. I just needed to vent. My hubby gets upset with me cuz he wants me to start riding my bicycle again. I do not fel comfortable on it anymore and 3 doctors have said NO bicycle. Two of the doctors are second and third opinions he wanted and they all say the same. Thank you again fo listening. I do feel very comfortable with my neuroligist and see no ned to change. I just have to kep ting help from my spiey frinds. I'm here quite often after work. Thanx
