First off I think that I am recovering fairly well from my ACDF on Sept 3. I am two weeks into recovery and things keep 'waking up'. The wide spread spasms into my legs, back and arms are very annoying and sleeping is more of a chore than a pleasure. I saw my PM doctor today and he decide to wait on putting me back on the Nucynta (which was working well before the tendon tore) and now is placing me on Zonegran for assistance in sleeping and hopefully will extend thru the next day to give some relief of the nerve pain I have that is increasing daily. I just really wanted to ask if anyone has taken this drug and what side effects they had. I am looking forward to the sleepiness and don't see that being a problem since I am not allowed to return to work until Nov at the earilest.

Thanks everyone and hopefully everyone else is in the bed sleeping right now.

  • I had not heard of this drug either. Zonegran is one of those anti-seizure medications that is used for a variety of purposes...from migraine to bipolar to nerve pain. The good news is that it eliminates sweet cravings and causes weight loss. How many of these drugs can you say that about?? Usually people gain like 40 pounds on some of the other meds....

One thing to be aware of: it is a sulfa drug, so be sure you do not have an allergy to sulfa before taking it, or you will break out in a nasty rash.

Glad to hear your feel you are recovering well. Keep up the good work!!
  • I did find some info on the drug but I haven't found anyone that has taken it. I am praying it KNOCKS me Out!
