I hope some of you can help me try and figure this out. This is my first post here and I would appreciate all the advice that you have.
9 weeks ago I underwent a Laminectomy and Microdiscectomy at L5 S1. I have disc degenerative disease, had a bulge, and bone spurs. At first, the surgeon said that it would take awhile for me to heal because the nerve had been pinched for so long. Finally at week 7 post op....and me still in pain everyday...he decided to order another MRI with and without contrast. This MRI showed that I now have fluid and inflammation and my nerve is still unable to come out. When I asked what do we do next I was told to undergo a nerve root block. A nerve root block will not make the fluid or inflammation go away...only block the nerve for who knows how long until the fluid goes away.
I asked the surgeon if the fluid was spinal fluid and he said no. I am not sure I am understanding why nothing else can be done. How can I get rid of the fluid and inflammatin and be normal again....doing normal things. I raked the yard yesterday and now am on the couch for the next couple of days.
I cant undergo a disk replacement because my disc is almost at the collapse stage. Fusion is out of the question as I will not do that.
I am 36...feeling depressed because I can't play with the kids or do yard work...and I have lost my job because I can't be on my feet for 8 hours.
