Hi everyone,

I am new to this site and have been reading all of the helpful posts. I am very worried about my condition. Here are my scan results;

-minor degenerative changes throughout the lumbar spine

-concentric disk bulges present at L4-L5 and L5-S1 with minor developing osteophytes of the vertabral body endplates and facet joints.

-minor facet joint osteoarthritis is associated with moderate ligamentum flavum hypertrophy

-congenitally short pedicles combine with degenerative changes to create a moderate to severe degree spinal stenosis in the appropriate clinical setting at L4-L5

-At L5-S1 there is a small right paracentral disk protrusion

-Contact of the traversing right S1 nerve is observed in the lateral recess

-Contact of the nerve without displacement could indicate a chemically mediated sciatica accounting for a compontent of the patient's symptoms.

What does all of this mean? I have an appt. with a surgeon in about a month. What should and shouldn't I be doing?(physically and to be prepares for the dr. visit)

I have had back pain and headaches most of my life and mand many injuries and traumas to my back and neck, I really am glad to finally have a reason for this, and mabey a cure?

Thanks ahead of time for your consideration

  • I can't really read an MRI but I have some or had some of those problems. I had a herniated disc and annular tear at L5-S1 with the nerve sitting on the exixtingg descending nerve and facet joint arthropy(arthritis) inflammation around a herniated disc though not always the reason. And now I have Degenerative disc throughout the lumber spine also. I have this site helpful as well as www.chirogeek.com to explain some of the meanings and possible treatments. Your primary Dr. should be able to explain most of the terms for you while awaiting your Spine Specialist appointment. We'll be here to support you though as I have received so much support here since I started having problems last year and I ended up on long term disability from work. I hope you find relief with some of the treatments they will offer you. Take care. Charry
