apologies this is so long! thanks in advance for reading:
i have had intense chronic pain in my lower back (l4, l5, s1) for almost 2 years. it may be ddd.
a new tangent has developed recently, & i'm concerned. i'm waking up with a cluster of painful symptoms each morning. they recede somewhat over the day, & then they reappear overnight during sleep & wake me up again the next morning.
at first, i simply noticed that the pain in my lower back was worse in the mornings than at any other time. then about 2 months ago i started waking up with sore hands as well. sore, slightly puffy & cramped--especially the fatty part of each finger between the first joint & actual hand. worse if i clench a fist.
now for the last month, the pain has become REALLY bad. not only is my back sore, it's locked & throbbing, ACHING in the morning. all my joints, but especially my knees, ache terribly upon waking. my knees, wrists, ankles--all my joints. muscles too--stiff & sore, strained & torn feeling. it's to the point where i feel like my very skin hurts to the touch. often pins & needles too, & numbness in fingers arms & feet.
when i wake my fingers are a mess: aching, puffy & sometimes "locked". remember when you were a kid & you would make a curve out of the fingers of both hands & then pull your curved hands against oneanother until they "locked". try as you might, you wouldn't be able to uncurl your fingers unless you used your other hand to do it.. well, i wake up with my hands like that. locked. i can't open them.
these symptoms used to disappear over the day but now they linger, so my pain level overall is much worse. & not one symptom one day & a different one the next. this whole cluster of symptoms experienced every morning. & worsening. exhausted, hurting all over & REALLY concerned at the deterioration. the joints of my knees are so bad now it's hard climbing stairs.
prior to this, my lower back hurt (thus the meds), but the rest of my body was just fine.
ANYONE EVER EXPERIENCE THESE SYMPTOMS?!?!
i told my dr about my hands & he dismissed it as a sign the ddd was worsening. but i'm not convinced. i'm wondering if, because of pain or meds i'm barely moving at all at night anymore, & this is creating the stiffness. i've wakened some mornings to discover i was laying EXACTLY as i was when i fell asleep. 6 hours in the same position.
anyone have any of this? anyone come across this at all during readings or researching? any ideas? i'd definitely appreciate your input!! my research so far hasn't turned up alot.
thanks again for reading.
