I had L5,S1 fused in Oct. 2006. The surgery was horrible and recovery was worse. About 6 months after surgery the Dr. did another X-ray and Mylogram. He suggested then that I have another surgery as the graft had moved and was compressing the siatic nerve. I decided not to have the surgery done as the 1st didn't seem to have helped. It is now 3 years later and I'm taking 2 to 3 times more medication than before the original surgery. I live in pain constantly and found out shortly after surgery that I also had Hypothyroidism and Narcolepsy. My life is in a mess physically. It seems that I work and rest. The Dr. tells me that the procedure will likely help some of the pain in my leg (and lower back) to the point of being able to stop taking some of the meds. He has told me that I would probably never be pain free as there is DDD, arthritis and some scoleosis(sp).
My question is, has anyone else had this problem? What do I do? I know only I can answer that question in the end, but I'm looking for answers and advice. I have no quality of life and as it stands, unless I have the surgery I have no chance of it. On the other hand, this pain is known and I am walking (at least for now)...thoughts???
