I just got home after having a Foraminotomy Right L5/S1 yesterday. My doctor told me a month before the operation, that I would go home the same day, and resume normal activites the next day. Fat chance! After spending several hours in the recovery room, the nurse said that it was time for me to get out of bed and walk around a bit before I could go home. After I got out of the bed, and tried to take my first step, I almost fell on my face because my right leg was so unstable. Lucky for me that my wife and the nurse caught me before I fell to the floor. I ended up spending the night in the hospital. I am walking better today with the aid of a cane that I never used prior to surgery, and I was able to go home. However, I am very depressed because I now have numbness going down the back of my right leg and the bottom of my right foot. Has anyone out there experienced this? Is this normal? I am 60 years old, and have suffered from sciatic pain for the last 12 years or so. My last episode started in April of 2009, and lasted till September of 2009. The pain was terrible, but the ironic thing is, was that the pain had disappered a week before the surgery. I decided to have the surgery, as I thought the pain would come back, as it had in the past. Now I am second guessing myself. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
