Hi, 50 yo male 2 weeks post op with L 3 -4 hemilaminectomy and discectomy...now having some swelling and bruising in the sacral area...not alot of pain at the surgical site but pain in the swollen area. Anyone have these postop symptoms or are they normal. Thank you...

  • I think you should definately call your surgeon, swelling and pain are signs of a problem and you should get it checked. Do you have a fever, is the swollen area red or warm. If so, don't wait, call right away. If not maybe it is just a bit of reffered injury from your proceedure, but call anyway!
Good luck and keep us posted!
  • It is now week 3 and the sacral swelling and ecchyomsis have disappeared. I still have slight pain in the tail bone and my usual twinges and tightness in the surgical area. 4 week appointment next week...Will PT be in my future? I suppose the 10 lb wt restriction will be the full 6 weeks. Had one really good half day earlier in the week so hopefully a sign of things to come. I really dont plan on having this turn into a chronic condition...lol
