"Snap" in upper back...

On Oct. 2 as I was adjusting my shirt I felt a horrible "snap" in my upper back (above my shoulder blades). It hurt really-really bad and I had to take small shallow breaths until the pain subsided. I went to the walk-in clinic at my spine dr's office and the doc who was working the clinic that day thought I had snapped a muscle so he put a "numbing" shot (short-term and long term) in the muscle and sent me on my way. The shot did not help at all so I made an appt with the spine doc and had two ct scans done. I have been experiencing numby-tingly feelings in my left arm below the elbow, in my left breast, pain from my spine across the back of my shoulder and down to the left elbow. I have been to the ER twice, called the doc back for more tests and am now waiting on a call back from the doc's office (if that ever happens!!). Does anyone have any idea of what this may be or has anyone experienced anything like this? Thanks for all the help and advice....I really need it.

  • Hi kathi,

Sorry to hear this happened. Do the doctors give you any ideas as to what it could be. I notice you said you had two Ct scans, what did the scans indicate? It would be hard to say what that could be going on. I do agree you need more testing. I take it you normally see a spine specialist is there one in particular you deal with normally that you could get a appointment with to run some more test? I do hope you find out what is causing your pain. Keep us posted on how you get along. Take care.
  • The first ct scan was done on my lower back and my spine dr said that if it is my left arm and shoulder that would not be the correct area anyway (his PA ordered it). The second ct scan was done in the cervical area and it doesn't show anything either! The PA called this morning and said she is going to order a Nerve Conduction Study on my upper back area. I never understand how someone can suffer from pain/tingling and something not show up somewhere....makes me second guess myself.....
