L5 S1 surgery - erectile dysfunction

For the past 20 months, I have had chronic groin and back pain. At first my doctor recommended a urologist because of possible prostrate problems. None of the urologists said I had a problem. After trying about everything, I finally had a MRI, and it showed that I have a herniated disc on L5-S1. I am scheduled fr surgery in 10 days.

I am worried that the surgery won't resolve my issues. My pain includes erectile dysfunction. Viagra and Cialis sometimes help, but whenever I get aroused I get severe pain in groin and buttocks. Massage therapy helped with this issue, but I moved recently and it made the pain even worse. I am worried that my ED will continue post-surgery.

  • i also have had my old friend ed visit me before and after my fusions. first of all i could not ejaculate then my erections got fewer and now no sex drive at all. i think that my surgeon stated that some of nerves in your back play havoc with the erections. one side effect with fusion from th efron is the lack of ejaculation. i have that now but i also think blood pressure meds with narcotics plays havoc with the old wennerwo. i have tried cialis and that works to some extend but if i don't have the urge to purge then why try?
    good luck
I have 4 fusions from L5-3, the latest last May '12 where they fixed my disc that broke. They went through my side this time. I take 40 mg of oxycontin 4x a day and 4 fenatyl lollipops 300 micro gms 4x a day.
  • Hope you don't mind... I closed this thread and left the other one open. The other thread is in "CONDITIONS NOT COVERED" and is probably a better place for it.

    Sorry for any inconvenience!
