I am new to this board and hope to get some info from some of you users.
In 2006 I began having sharp shooting pains down my right leg, found out after a mri that I had 3 herniated discs. I was Referred to a pain mgmt doctor who gave me 3 steriod shots which helped somewhat. I finally decided to see a spine specialist who did surgery on those 3 discs in 2007. I continued to get occasional pain on and off in the low back area. Most recently low back spasms that can last from minutes to 8 hours or more.
After 2 more MRI and a set of x-rays my spine doc said that all was intact in the surgical area and after the most recent MRI in September my spine doc said that I have 4 degerative discs. He sent me to a pain mgmt doc who did a nerve block in October. Didn't help much because the muscle spasms continued. He did a shot in the facet nerve about 2 weeks ago on the left side. That shot helped the left side but I have been having continuous sharp shooting pains like a bolt of lightening on the right. Its most severe when I first get up after lying down and when I take a step or move I get this sharp pain. After I'm moving around for a bit, it seems to subside.
Has anyone else experienced these sharp shooting lightening bolt pains or anything similar?
I see my pain mgmt doc next week. I don't know what he is going to suggest but I certainly want to know if this is something that I will have to live with for the rest of my life or if something else can be done.
I guess I need to mention that I am a 68 years old female and think young and want to continue to be as active as I possibly can. I am getting depressed.
I apologize for rambling on.
