I have been on 10 to 20 mgs of hydrocodone a day for over a year. My question is this......does long term use of narcotics result in the body not "knowing" how to deal with pain on it's own. In other words, I wonder if I weaned off of narcotics and endured the pain for awhile, would the body "remember" how to deal with pain on it's own?
I don't like having to take narcotics but I am in a category of "failed back surgery syndrome" and in far worse pain than I was before surgery. Pain managment has been only marginally succesful. I don't know if I'm actually making matters worse by having to use lortab to deal with the pain?
On the other hand, maybe I should go to another doctor to at least determine what's going on. My current doc just says the hardware is well positioned and the fusion is complete and I'm "just one of those few who don't have a good result."
