I never expected to be staying home on Christmas playing it safe but here I am. Found out the day I returned from ice skating at Rockefeller Center a couple of weeks ago that I am in danger of being paralyzed if I fall thanks to the MRI I had the day before I left for NY. I have disc damage at C3,C4, C5 and C6 and my spinal cord is swollen in one area and pinched in another. Its caused my right hand to be numb for 2 years (yes, 2 years I've ignored it)My left hand went numb 6 months ago and has become my worst enemy over time. I'd swear it was smashed to look at it and I wear a glove to spare myself the agnony of touching a cold surface. Anyway 4 discs are being replaced and a titanium plate put in to secure it all on Jan 12. I'm 44 and an avid ice skater, bowler, and lately snow shoveler. Right now I am hanging on and unable to do anything. I ask myself why me, how did this happen and am depressed trying to not let it get my husband and family down too. My doctor said I can have most of my life back, except I'll never ride another roller coaster (another thing I love to do). After reading that other people are out there like me makes me feel not so alone. I wish you all the best of luck and thanks for being there.
