question about ssd

i was just approved for ssd last week. they said my start date is aug 2 2007. my question is when would i be eligeble for medicare? thank you for your help.

    I'm going to answer it in two ways since I'm not clear if they've told you the SSDI beneit begin date or the date they found you disabled.

    *If SSDI benefit would begin effective 8/2007 then your medicare eligibility would be as of 8/2009.

    *But, if SS claims you are disabled as of 8/2/07 then you have a 5 full calendar month waiting period before SSDI benefits begin. This waiting period would be Sept07, Oct07, Nov07, Dec07, and Jan08 so SSDI benefits would begin 2/1/08. Thus Medicare would be effective 2/1/10.
