Nerve Block that caused more pain

Hi all

Has anyone experienced more pain with a nerve block.

  • Yes. The last one I had prior to my PLIF.... The nerve pain was intense and lasted about 3 weeks. I cried daily. Level 7-8 pain down my right leg.

It was a blessing in disguise. I asked my PCP for a refferal to a NS after that. The NS did more test to help figure out the real issue.

  • I didn't have a nerve block but I just had an epidural steriod injection at L4/L5 to help with L5/S1 pain I am having 1.5 yrs post op L5/S1 fusion. As soon as the medicine was injected, I felt this uncomfortable pressure in my left sciatic nerve then gradually through out the day it started on other side and went from low back down to my ankles. My siactic nerve pain and lumbar pain have been at higher levels since the injection. I'm going for another ESI on 1/11 as I heard sometimes it doesn't work the 1st time.

I'm sorry to hear that your injection caused more pain instead of making you feel better.
  • Did you get any relief at all from the injection? Typically with the nerve blocks i am so happy with the relief, albeit short lived. My surgeon says if the nerve block doesn't help then the nerve itself isn't the issue. He will only do one level at a time. Most of the time he is just using it as a diagnostic tool not meant for any longer term relief. How many levels did they do and was it both sides or just one? I do hope this flare up ends soon for you. Take care.
