I just had my surgeon visit I have been waiting for. For those of you that dont know, I have been referred out to a top notch surgeon at a local research hospital in the area because my surgeon is not sure what he can do for me.
I had to use a wheel chair for the first time in my life because my pain was too bad to walk, but maybe this added to the effect, who knows. My wife and I really liked this surgeon and every time he talked about options he had statistics from the latest studies to back him up.
For me he strongly advised against ADR, due to the fact that I have three levels with issues and that it appears that my facet joints are probably where a lot of my pain is coming from. He also advised against fusion because a three level is the only logical move and this would most likely cause me more issues down the road than having no surgery at all.
His focus is on my facet joints and recommends I get facet joint injections on L4 and L5 and if I have success with that to have a nerve burn. He also wants me to get a SI joint injection to rule that out, but some of my pain is consistant with that.
SO, for me at least I'm not looking at a big surgery here soon and hopefully these procedures will snap me out of this bad pain cycle and allow me to get back on my feet. Not sure what the future has in store for me, but looks like this is a life long battle for me so get used to me here...................thanks for all the support of SH members that have allowed me to keep my sanity through all of this.
