I was originally supposed to get a Tlif which involved 4 small incisions my surgeon said, Well Thursday i go into surgery and after 4 hours come out with 36 staples in 1 long incision, When they opened me up every ligament from my L4 thru my S1 was either partially torn or completley torn, I come home yesterday and am using a walker, I can barely walk or move for that matter. I feel completley useless, Thank god for my wife as i am like a baby here, I didn't realize i would have this kinda pain afterwards but was told that it is because the surgery was more involved than originally thought, the torn ligaments never showed up on any of the MRI's the Surgeon said so he had no idea........Just a quick update i will type more later....Paul

  • I am sorry that you had to have a different procedure than you were told. It sounds like you had a PLIF from L-4 -S1? That is the same surgery as I had. It will get better, just look at how you feel week to week instead of day to day. Just try to walk around the house as much as you can. If you have any questions, please ask. I hope each day finds you stronger and in less pain.
Good Luck, and keep us posted as to how you are doing. Remember, no sitting unless bathroom or eating,. Sitting is the worst. Also no bending, lifting or twisting. Hope you rest well, Love, Robin
  • I hope that your pain gets under control soon.
Each day that passes will be another one gone on the way to being recovered.
You are very fortunate to have your wife caring for you. Hopefully in a couple of weeks or so, you will be able to begin to be more independent.

Let us know, when you can, how you progress.
    Things will get easier.
    Keep resting and healing.
