Shoulder Surgery and a Lump

patwhite101ppatwhite101 Posts: 1,213
Saw my Ortho today about my shoulder and my knee.
Looks like I will be having surgery on my shoulder sometime soon. He is not sure just how extensive it will be...total replacement or what. First I have to have an MRI before he can tell me more. I guess it depends how how badly damaged my rotory cuff is. My next appointment is the 18th after I have the MRI.
Last night I discovered a lump under my arm. He said it has nothing to do with my shoulder but I need to see my PCP as quickly as possible so he can referr me to a specialist.
Golly Gee.....I just do not need any more bad news!!
I also have to have knee surgery.....now my shoulder and now a stupid lump!! And on top of all this the savage pain in my feet and legs!!
Wish me luck folks. Right now i am a bit down....but not to worry. Tomorrow I will pick myself up, dust myself off and be fine. I never stay down more than a few hours. It's very hard for me to keep a smile off my face.
Hugsss >:D<

You get what you get, not what you deserve......I stole that from Susan (rip)
Today is yours to embrace........ for tomorrow, who knows what might be starring you in the face!
  • I hope you'll feel better after your surgery and I hope that lump is only a swollen lymph node. Best wishes and a prayer for you for the days ahead. Charry

  • Thanks guys. I am sure I will fill much better after this surgery. This shoulder is driving me bonkers. It throbs with pain. It can't get worse can it?
I will see the Doctor next week about this lump. I had a lump in my breast before and it was benign.(s?) I am sure this one will be too. But my Mother had cancer. We shall see.
    Cheers :H

  • Hi Patsy. Hopefully your shoulder surgery will be minor! Let us know how your MRI turns out. My shoulder is no longer popping and grinding 10 days after surgery. It was so worth it! I'm very glad I had this done. Life will be better for you with one less painful joint dragging you down. And try not to worry too much about the lump until you have something concrete to worry about. I've spent weeks full of worry to have the tests be negative. I got myself all stressed out over nothing! We spiney's have enough to worry about and life is so short. Take care,

    Faith M
  • Thank you so much for the comment. I am happy to hear you are doing well after your surgery.
Yes...I have enough issues with pain without this added problem.
I am not going to worry about this lump. It does no good and does not solve anything does it? I see my PCP about it next week.
    Cheers :H

  • I have had a lump under my right shoulder, armpit, twice in the last month of so. I asked my doctor and he said it is probably just an unhappy lymph node as it comes and goes. When it is feelable it is tender and hurts then the next time I check it poof, gone.
So, lets hope that is all your is!

I have been reading Faiths great success with her shoulder and am so glad. I have had such a mess of a time with mine I always think the worst!
I have to remember that like most surgeries the majority go fine.

I think the biggest fear I had going into the last shoulder surgery was that he would go in and find nothing wrong. The partial replacement I can/could, at least thought I could handle. The fear he would find nothing and do nothing was far worse

Hope it stops snowing and you can get all your testing done in a timely manner!
  • I think I know some of your suffering. I am not sure which is worse....my shoulder pain or my feet and leg pain!!
My MRI is weekend after next so I hope the snow is gone by then. We are in for more snow this weekend!!
Not good for our pain is it?
I just hope I do not have to have a total replacement. Just have to wait and see what the MRI shows. The x ray shows my arm has dropped in the socket so we know that much. It feel like my arm is being held on by a couple of threads!!
I am not to worried about this lump. I have had one removed and it was benign.
But it could be worse.....I could be in Haiti!!
    Cheers :H

  • I really, really hope that if you need surgery on your shoulder... that it turns out to be a success like Faith's surgery was. It's great to hear how well she is doing and please keep reading her post for reassurance.

How is the lump? It's good to have it checked out and like the others have said... I wouldn't worry about it.

Please let us know when you have appointments scheduled.

I wish you less pain every day and it won't be long to where all of your pains are going to be addressed and taken care of. We are already into the month of February, so hang tight. Do not go outside without some kind of support or help. We can't risk another slip and fall with you, girl!

    Take good care,

    Tammy >:D<

  • I am NOT looking forward to going under the knife again but I am sooooo eager to be free of some of this pain. The sooner I get this over with the better for me. When it rains it sure comes down by the buckets!!
I see the Doctor about this lump Wed. but am not to worried about it. I am sure it is nothing. At least it does not hurt!! I have THAT to be thankful for. I just can't take anymore pain!!

    Cheers :H

  • I just found this....you certainly are having a rough time!! I'm hoping and praying you'll be good as new, possibly partial bionic, doing amazing things! I know you've been having a rough time with your shoulder lately along with your savage leg problems so I'm glad to hear you are finally on your way to answers and solutions. I know you aren't looking forward to surgery but it will be worth the benefits afterward! Hey, can you ask for a "multiple" discount! Just kidding! LOL! Hey, I recently had a lump aspirated(sp?) so I'll keep my fingers crossed it's a lymph gland which a round of antibiotics will take care of or a non-serious lump they can aspirate!! I'm thankful you are going to the dr next week so you can get this show on the road, one step at a time! You deserve to feel better soon! I always enjoy your smile and sense of humor! Take care and keep us posted with each update!

  • :D :D I told you to wear glasses when you go for your antiperspirant -- I hear spraying air freshener under your arm pits will give you lumps -- but good smelling lumps! No kidding, I've almost brushed my teeth with my foot cream and sprayed my hair with air freshener! Will keep positive thoughts that the lump is nothing but a waste of good worrying!

Sleeping must not come easy to you with your shoulder, knee, legs and feet causing you pain -- I wish there was a way that we could enter some sort of hypnotic state where the pain would go away.

I wish for much better days ahead for you sweet lady -- you and Pepper hang in there and the rest of us will be your supports for the swing!

    Judy
  • Thanks for the laugh. I needed that. It's 4AM and I can't sleep coz of this pain.
I have grabbed the hair sprey and sprayed under my arms and used hand lotion for shampoo. That lotion is HARD to wash out!! I tellin you it is. My mind is never around when I need it!! LOL
This surgery will get rid of some of my pain and THAT will be a blessing!!
I have to many other things to worry about , no time to worry about a silly lump that is not hurting.
If it ain't hurtin I don't worry about it.
Sending you and the fur kid a hug and a tail wag from my fur kid.

  • Judy's post is hilarious. So funny, that it made my sip of coffee go down the wrong pipe this morning! Poor Zach and Nikki... they came barreling out of their bedrooms when they heard me hacking out in the family room. Mike was with me, I was fine, but the sounds I was making to catch my breath startled the daylights out of them.

Whew... my tummy muscles really got a good workout this morning... lol. I need to also thank Judy for her post!

I was wondering, have you ever been on any nerve medications for your legs and feet Patsy? Like, Lyrica or Neurontin? I think about you, when I get the restless leg thing in the middle of the night. I have found that taking a dose of Neurontin, really helps. Lyrica worked very well, but caused my hands to swell really bad. I was switched to Neurontin and luckily, my hands don't swell as bad. I couldn't believe how much nerve pain I had in my back and I'm so thankful there are medications to help take away that horrible pain.

I'm so anxious for you to see your new Pain Management doctor. Having to rely solely on the one pain medication, is absolutely heart breaking. There are so many other medications that might really help you.

Relief is on the way, so hang in there.

    Hugs to you and Pepper,

    Tammy
  • You just gotta love Judy. She can always bring a smile to my face even when the pain is God awful.
Yea Tammy...I will be getting help at long last!!
I am having a very bad time of it Tammy, very bad.
    Patsy W
  • I'm glad to see you on here, that means you have power there! Yea! Now keep the lights on when you put on deod. so you can see what you are spraying where! LOL! Did you get the lotion out of your hair? Once, when I was much younger and even still had some of my mind(years ago) left...I actually brushed my teeth in the dark so not to wake my husband...with men's hair gel my son had left on the counter...YUCK,SPIT, YUCK!! Well, obviously all that noise woke my DH up anyways! LOL! So much for that!

By the way, do you have a good movie you can pop in to try to take your mind of the pain when you can't sleep tonight? I'm notorious for watching tv on mute, reading the lines...LOL... and last night, actually 3am, I finally fell asleep after reading a book then watching the weather channel for hours on end! LOL!

    Kathy
  • We did not get hit to hard here but people just north of me did. Wrambler, who lives north of me,said they have 18" of snow!!WOW!! A neighbor stopped by and shoveled my walk for me. Neighbors are so good to me.
We are learning some funny stuff about each other here. I love it!! =)) Yep...that hand lotion was very hard to get out!!LOL
I watch a lot of movies on my comp. That helps to take my mind off the pain some. Also read but have yet to resort to watching the weather channel.LOL
I will see my PCP Wed or Thursday about this lump under my arm and also get refills on all my meds.

    Cheers :H

  • You don't know me, but i've been following your posts and I just had to pop in and say it is a truly humbling experience meeting someone who can remain so positive and smile DESPITE all your problems.
I had a mini meltdown the other day and have been glued to this site since and I have to say there are so many people here who have not let their pain define them, they define their pain. It has made me truly ashamed of letting it get the better of me, when my issues pale in comparison to people like you.
    You are truly an inspiration.
I'm sure your lump will turn out to be nothing and your shoulder surgery will be smooth sailing and successful.
I did have a good giggle about the deodorant, hand lotion etc. it reminds me of the time that I had a cold and grabbed the cough medicine in the dark and took a big swig of peroxide Ughh, that was disgusting :S
Any way i'm thinking of you, it's Thursday here so I presume it's Wednesday in USA which means you should be finding out soon.

  • Thank you so much for your lovely comment.
Pain CAN get one down if you let it. It's hard to cope with but cope we must.....we have no other choice!! I have my moments but they are just moments. I have shed tears but by golly I hang on to my hope.
I see my PCP today. I am sure this lump is nothing. Perhaps a fatty tumor although I am not fat but I don't thing that makes a difference. My Mother had cancer but I am still not worried. AND it does not hurt!! Everytime something goes wrong it causes me more pain so I do not worry unless it hurts.LOL
I fall down....I get up(with help) and so it goes.
Keep the chin up gal. One of these days all will be better.
Sending a left arm hug. >:D<
