acdf c5c6 with all hardware + vertebre replacement..went to NS for ckup ..new xrays done..won't find out till tues...the bad pain inbetween shoulder blades is due to healing of vertebre..according to NS...I can't quite understand this..I was feeling so good till 2 wks ago and these symptons flared up...i am 6 mos post op..how long is "early in the game" or a long recovery ahead? I am really getting discouraged here...NS said if tests show as he thinks then we would possibly see about a pain management program...this is new to me now..any info appreciated....I feel like I'm going backwards instead of forwards..any response welcome....

  • Howdy! My first cervical fusion was the same level, C5/6. I had the very pain you are describing, and I had the same questions. For me the pain finally let up around month 7 or 8.

Basically as was described to me by my NS is this: The loading is now changed on your cervical spine with the "joining" of the C5 and C6 vertebrae. Headaches and pain at the center base of your neck, and too feeling it is between your shoulder blades is normal and is part of this physiological change to your body.

Hope that helps. Sorry your still hurting. I mixed heat and ice at the base of my neck, and that seemed to help. Ice more so... Take care.
