Saw new pain management doctor

Just a little update on my background for those who do not know. I left my pain doctor due to the financial issues of paying facility fee along with doctors fee which became too expensive. I saw my new pain doctor Monday. I love this woman.
She is a doctor who is genuine when it comes to caring for her patients. Not a doctor out for the money so to speak. She actually listened to me and mapped out a plan of action in treatment. Unlike my other pain doctor when he was no longer able to give injections he would pass me back to the surgeon and only controlled my pain at a minimal level at the least. I was with my old pain doctor for 6 years and now see that was a big mistake. I could of saved myself years of uncontrolled pain. Not only did she tell me no more injections that I have had more then anyone should have she is also doing a complete work up so to speak....blood test, cat scan and wants to know why my spine has so many issues.
She thinks there may be an underlying cause that has not been diagnosed. I am so used to doctors not listening to me that I almost wanted to cry when I left her office. So to all those that feel like they are not getting good healthcare dont give up there are good docs out there, you just have to find them.

  • I do agree with you I went threw 4 to 5 PM DR to find one that cares and listen to me. So yes there are good ones out there you got to find them.

  • I'm so glad you have found a doctor that listens and that wants to try to get to the bottom of your issues. Too many specialists go for the easy, most obvious answer and do not look any further.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that she can figure out your pain generator.
  • That is great you found someone who genuinely cares :-)

I see a new PM doc 3/4/10 and am really hoping to get some answers and relief. Your story sounds so like mine. I feel like they were passing me back and forth between my PM and surgeon. I had more injections than I ever wanted in a life time, not to mention they did not even help but they continued to do them. Now I am left with no answers other than they can't figure out why I am still in pain, my pain meds do not help relieve my pain, and they really just left me out to dry per say.

It is great to hear you found a good PM. They are out there we just have to find them. ;-)
  • Susan, I'm so happy for you that you've found an ally in your new PM doc. You sound so much more optimistic now. Let us know what she finds and recommends. Best wishes to you! :)

  • Susan,I am so happy for you!I know what you mean about being so happy you could cry-even though my first surgeon took wonderful care of me,he can't compare to the surgeon who did my anterior/posterior 7 weeks ago--I hugged he and his asst.when I saw them at my 2 week post-op.So hug away! You deserve it!
  • It's good you never gave up looking for a PM Dr. I have an appt. with my 3rd this time female PM Dr. I hope she's good also. I hope she helps you more. Take care. Charry

  • on finding a caring and compassionate doctor. i know how relieved you must feel.

pain contol is so important to your quality of life if you live in chronic pain, yet so many with chronic pain still suffer. it's such a shame.

i have a good family doctor that i've started going to. he definately believes my pain and has been willing to help me so far, but it, by no means, is adequately controlling it. i'm trying to build up my relationship with him before i bring up the need for more pain control. i've been treated so badly by alot of doctors, and don't want to ruin it with this one.

congrats again, i'm happy for you.
