Hi all, Iam one month post op (L5/S1 post fusion) and iam fealing great! I havn't taken a pain med in about a week and have been up and walking almost every hour.

One Q, My neurosurgeon doesn't want to see me until 3 months post and no one has mentioned PT.
At what stage does one normally start PT after this type of surgery?
Many thanks to all and i wish you all the best

  • Hi and great news on how well you are feeling.
I had a revision Micro D and am 1 pain or muscle relaxer per day still and I'm a month out. So I'm quite impressed.

I assume you had a post op check up right?
Some doctors do 2 weeks and then 6 weeks. Others, stretch it out by some.

I'm not sure on PT for fusion. I haven't had one but did talk to several doctors about it and they vary. Some start as soon as 3 weeks and other's prefer to wait until week 6.

I would call your doctor and ask what his plan is for that and if there's anything like aqua therapy that would be worth starting sooner.

Just wanted to say that it's great at how well you feel 1-month post op! Congrats on this milestone.
  • great news As for your question some dr will order pt and others wont and some leave it up to you.

  • Thats great you're feeling so good!. I wish you continued success with your recovery. I cant say when you can have PT but keep walking. Good to hear of your successful surgery. Take care. Charry
