Cervical problem masking other problems

After ACDF in Nov 09 DH has had problems. Worst is pain and problem with right arm, pain when lifting arm, sharp stabbing pains from shoulder down to elbow with movement and even at rest. Dr did MRI of neck in Feb trying to see what it was. Nothing showed. Did another yesterday and called today to say he has a torn rotator cuff and that the cervical problem was probably masking the pain which is why he didn't feel it before the surgery. Anyone ever have problems that were hidden by their cervical problems that started giving them trouble after the surgery? If so what did you do to take care of the problem?

  • well, i was first dx with shoulder problems and after OS didn't fix the pain in my left shoulder and arm (made it worse if truth be told). Woke from shoulder surgery with numbness in left arm. He then had a MRI done of my c-spine and quickly formarded me to NS with lots of cervical issues. needless to say I've had ADCF after my shoulder surgery and as of yet. I still have issues, numbness in left arm, both shoulders numb and burn constantly, left arm is pretty much useless. Mornings are the worst and tends to get a little better during day with help of pain meds, but as night draws nearer, both shoulders and left arm become very touch sensitive. Where as my clothes begin to irritate me unrelentlessly. When it gets to that point. I go to bed where I can't sleep on my left side at all and start the cycle all over again when I wake in the morning.
