My Thoracic Surgery

Well, I will be seeing my doctor on April 15th to schedule my surgery. As far as I know, it will be on T11-12, T12-L1 unless it has changed since the last xray that I was done last year. There is a lot more pain now, so I am going to ask him about that.

I read here on the form trying to get all the information that I can.

It really helped me for my Spinal Fusion that I had done last July 2009.

  • I wish you the very best outcome with your upcoming thoracic surgery.

There are a couple of other members who have recently had or will be having thoracic surgery, like yourself. It always helps to talk with others who have had thoracic surgery, particularly during your recovery.

Please let us know how your appointment goes and what kind of surgery your doctor is suggesting for you.

I will be happy to answer any questions I can for you and I sincerely hope the surgery will rid you of the non-stop pain you currently have.

    Take good care,

    Tammy :)
  • I was born with congenital kyphosis T11-L1. had surgery 1999, post anterior release fusion w strut graft, posterior fusion and instrumentation T11- L1, In 2003 injured back, and has pain is severly worse, said postlaminectomy syndrome, osteoarthritis, and bone scan said non specific, but showed increased radioactive die in mid of back where rods are. Any thought?
  • Saw my doctor yesterday. I told him where I was hurting and before he will schedule surgery, he wants to do an MRI on T3 to T10 to make sure there is not a problem with any of these disks. He knows that I have a problem with T11-12, T12-L1 and L1-2. I will post when I see him again and I get the results.
I really hope he does not find anything wrong with any of those, but with my left side on the back from my waist up to my shoulder hurting, he is not sure.

  • Hi,

    I have started a blog at http://joycessurgeries.blogspot.com/2010/04/my-thoracic-surgery.html

If anyone would like to read it. I have gone into more detail on it.

  • My Doctor called today and my MRI is for next Tuesday April 27th then I will see him on April 29th for the results.
I will post afterwards with what he tells me.

  • HOpe all goes how you want it to go,,hope the MRI doesn't show any other damage.

  • Thanks Ilene

I will be seeing my doctor tomorrow, 4-29. When this all started in 08 he told me that I needed surgery on T11-12, L1-2, but now I am not sure. I do want something though to help stop the hurting and help me be able to do more.

Will write more after I see him tomorrow.

  • I saw my doctor thursday and according to the MRI, I have only 2 good disc in my complete back and he said that the only thing that could be done would be to fuse my complete back. But he would not do this.

I have read on the internet where people have had this done and came out ok. Also we know a person that had this done also, and he is back to work and doing great.

Does anyone have any information on this?

Has anyone here had this done on them?

  • Well, the nurse at the new doctor's office never called me. When I called they said that all calls are returned within 48 hours and please do not call them, that they WOULD return the call.

So I called one of the other doctors at the same office that has my orginal doctor that did the other two surgeries. This one is a spine specialist. I did not know, but my orginal doctor only does neck and lower back. But I still can't understand why he did not tell me to check with another doctor to see if anyone could do more for me.

So I have a call into them, they pulled my chart and the new doctor will look at it and if he thinks he can help me they will call to set up an appointment. This will take up to 14 days.

  • I get so mad when I hear things like this. You have to be Sherlock Holmes to get anywhere. If you don't get a reasonable answer from these doctors don't give up. I would try looking in big city teaching hospitals since it is probably a more uncommon surgery.
