I tried to do some spring yard work today. My neck (C5/6, C6/7) is aching, but not badly. Generally I have had issues with aching in my triceps, forearms and hands. Today was mild, so it was now or never on the yard. I mowed without much problem, but when it came time to rake and especially when it came time to trim the hedge, I couldn’t do it. When I hold my arms out away from my body for any period of time, my triceps kill me and my hand starts aching. Each time I would rest and try again, it would start back soon after until I couldn’t go 2 minutes without stopping. My questions are regarding these symptoms since I have had other arm issues before.
1. Is inability to work with arms extended or arms over shoulder level a symptom of cervical issues? Terrible aching!
2. Is hand aching a symptom of cervical?
3. Is loss of grip a symptom? By the time I finished, I couldn’t hold the trigger down on the trimmer at all.
FYI, my treatment has consisted of PT and ESI. Not much else. I am an otherwise health person that can (could) outwork anyone my age. Not anymore. I know I should know all this stuff by now, but I really try to get away from my issues as often as possible and try to think about something else.
