Progress Update 4 weeks Post Op ACDF 5/6/7

Today is exactly 4 weeks out. I asked if I could return to work full time and was told no/ but I can go back 1/2 time.... Not really a good option when disablity pays more than 50% of my wages..... I have bills to pay so I am a bit stresses out.

The good news is I havent needed any pain meds during the day (not even Tylenol). I am still taking 1- 10 mg Norco, 1 -10 mg flexerile before bed. Sleep is hit or miss. I seem to have developed a good night/ bad night pattern. Again I am stressed out about finacnces and this adds to my anxiety.

I wake up groggy (side effect of meds), and a little stiff but nothing to bad. I wish I could have had the surgery sooner (like back in October when it was initially scheduled).

My eye is still effected with Horner's Syndrome (not alot of fun).... I have had people tell me it hardly noticable only to hear second hand that they think I look aweful). Nice lol!

It sounds like you've made a great recovery. My issues have all been lumbar. So I don't know to much about cervical surgeries other than what I read on here. I know what you mean by trying to get by on half your salary. Hang in there. Your surgeon wouldn't want you to go back too soon and go backwards in your recovery.
    Good luck, Jim

You get what you get, not what you deserve......I stole that from Susan (rip)
Today is yours to embrace........ for tomorrow, who knows what might be starring you in the face!
  • I don't do well on sleeping meds either. I tried taking 50 mgs (2 pills) of Benedryl and it works GREAT! None of the side effects that other sleep meds have.

    You should try it.

  • I am so glad you are feeling good! Just dont under estimate the need to still go slow.

I will be one month out on the 10th. I asked the doctor if I could go back to work at my last appointment on the 22th and he said No Way. I will be going back part time next week. This job has no STD.

Good luck and take care of yourself!
