Ringing in Ears/Vision

I have constant ringing in my left ear but have lately had severe episodes of the entire left side of my head ringing. It lasts from ten minutes to an hour - it really gets intense. Can anyone with neck problems relate to this?

I'd also like to know if anyone else has changes in their
vision that may be due to their neck issues.

It seems like both of these issues are related to my neck.
I notice an increase in the weakness & tightness in my
left arm and leg when the above get intense.

  • I am not a neckie, but I really think this is something beyond us here on SH. I think you really should make sure your doc knows and the next episode where your the left side of your body has problems, you should go to the ER. Maybe other cervical patients can share their experiences, maybe it is benign, but it could be something as serious as a TIA(mini stroke) to a med reaction.

It does not look like you are taking aspirin. That was something that ran through my head when first reading about hearing problems but it does not explain your other symptoms at all.

I really feel you need to see a neurologist and go to the ER with the next episode. I do not want to alarm you, but I don't tell people to go to the ER very often. You really need to have an expert evaluate you in person.

Please let us know what happens when you see your doctor and what answers you get.

  • Hi Jasro, I dont have the ringing in my ears, and I agree with angie that you should go get that checked out, it doesnt sound right, I will say that since I found out that I have c4-5 and bone spurs with an impingement of my c6 that I have vision problems, like rolling circles in my periphial vision only in my right eye, ns said not related to neck? I dont know I think it could be, I saw an eye dr and he said its probably opitical migraines, and the headaches have been bad. Thats my two cents worth, good luck and let us know, Lela
  • I did got to the ER about a month ago. No strokes. I'm trying to figure out what's normal as far as necks and heads so I can figure out my next step.
    I know we're all different.
If headaches can be from neck issues, then it makes sense that any of the cranial nerves can be involved. I wish I'd gone to medical school. sigh..

    Thanks

    Hello Jasro,

Occasionally I get ringing in my left ear, and if 50 times, 2 times maybe to my right. It only lasts for a few minutes. My ringing sound is a high pitched sound that starts low and goes high. It will do that like 5 or 6 times and then back off. My NS told me for me, it might be from my C2/3 which is chronic with spurs, and so far (thank goodness) a large bulging of the disk. I use them as a warning that a occipital headache is heading my way! Also too, I have been in aviation and law enforcement for over 30 years - constant loud noises (can cause ringing) aircraft engines, firearms etc.

Vision, no problems here other than the usual "aging" changes to my eyes. My right eye is a bit off for distance, but my last eye exam was about a year and a half ago - changes that seem normal for me. Take care. I hope you find answers to your ringing.

  • My daughter and I both have had these problems. And imagine this...the doctors say it can't be related!! Yet if you look at the nerve charts you will see that all of the nerves for the head run down through the neck and back up.

As far as vision I can say with absolute certainty that neck problems can cause this. My surgery irritated the para-sympathetic nerves which control the pupil and eyelid. If you look at my eye it looks like a right side stroke.

I know I sound cynical but the last year has taught me that doctors don't know everything. And in fact they will say things with absolute certainty that can be easily proven wrong. I keep reminding myself that the are only human. So trust in your feelings and don't stop looking for the answer.
  • so much to everybody.

    I'll keep hanging in here.

    It gets so hard.
