nerve impinging at C7

I saw my Dr. yesterday and saw the neck x-ray report that I have abnormal curve of my neck and DDD at c6 and C-7 nerve impinging. I've had problems with tennis elbow for a few years and had that treated but now I still get pain and numbness only to my left arm. Sometimes I get sharp pains in my index finger. I sometimes get sudden spasms in my neck that catch me off guard with shooting pain. I started taking Lyrica again and my Dr. thinks that will help.

I'm concerned that the numbness will be permanent. I wonder if I should get an EMG? My main issues are lumber of course but wonder if I should get injections for my neck also. Thank goodness no problems with thoracic. Charry

  • Good Afternoon Charry!!!

As you know, I too have issues neck and back. Since they now know there are nerve issues in your Cervical spine, an NCV/EMG I would think would be next on the list? Weakness scares me more than numbness personally. You don't want to let it get to there if you can help it. I would ask your doctor with the knowledge now in hand, "What should I expect, and what is the probable plan?" Please keep us posted on what happens? Support *HUG*

    PCTF C4 - T2, Laminectomies C5, C6 & C7. Severe Palsy left arm/hand.
  • Have you had a cervical MRI? If not, that might be a good thing to have done in addition to an EMG.

As you know, I have had (and still have to a small extent) C6/7 problems and you should have it analyzed to determine if something needs to be done before you have permanent nerve damage.

Lyrica might help with the nerve pain, but like we all know, bandaids aren't always the answer. Sometimes we need to go beyond putting on a bandaid and find the root of the problem.

Let us know what you and your doctor decide to do. Cervical problems are nothing to mess around with or ignore.
