Hi, I had fusion at L5-S1 for spondylolisthisis in Dec. 10.

I have a feeling of a vice squeezing tighter and tighter
around my abdomen and all the way around my back. Is this
muscles tightening or muscle weakness or something else?

  • I have the same symptom.
I am not sure if it is my thoracic discs playing up, as those are some of the recognised symptoms, or perhaps it could be muscles spasming after surgery.

Mind you, you are a long way past your surgery for muscle spasms. Or maybe not - I'm not sure. :?

My PT has told me that my muscles are tightening to guard my back when I try to move. But he knows that I do have 3 herniated discs in my thoracic spine.

I really hope that we will find that this goes away as my muscles relax from the surgery.
He did say once we have sorted out muscles from my surgery, we will work on protecting my thoracic and cervical spine. (And my knees too!) :D

Perhaps you should let your doctor know about the tightening around your abdomen, and let him/her decide what it could be. :-)

Do let us know what the outcome is.
