I received my Medicare Card in the mail yesterday. I will be automatically signed up for Part A and B when it becomes effective Nov 1. I also was sent a small brochure detailing the basics of the plans. This gives me 4 months to decide which is the best way to go.

I am currently on Health Insurance thru my wifes employer. Its good coverage but a supplemental plan will definitely help. I'm looking at a few Medicare Advantage Plans in my area, one that was put together by local doctors.

Its confusing, so I'm going to do careful research. I my third spinal surgery coming up sometime within the next year, a two level discectomy/fusion in my neck. I want the best coverage I can get.

Get a copy of the plan from your spouse's employer. MANY plans require that if you notify them that you are eligible/receiving Medicare due to disability or retirement AND often you are required to accept Medicare and make the employer based health insurance secondary.
