Scheduled ALIF & PLIF One Week Apart

Has anyone had an ALIF in the rib/lung area to remove disc and than a week later have PLIF to place hardware?

On August 31, I am scheduled for an ALIF to remove disc at T12, L1-2 (remove XLIF fusion from 5/09), L2-3, L3-4. (L4-5 already fused 2009 & fine.) S1 will stay intact.
This will not be the traditional ALIF. It will be in the lung/rib area. A rib will be removed/chest tube placed & all these disc removed.
Than a week later, surgery is scheduled Sept. 7, 2010 with a PLIF to place all hardware.
Has anyone had this type of surgery?
How did you do?

  • I hope it goes well. My sister did a similiar surgery many multi years ago, but they did it 1 day apart.
  • Why can't they do both surgeries at the same time? Obviously there's got to be a very good reason for this and I'll admit, I do not understand the first procedure in it's entirity, but it seems harsh to have one surgery, then to have another in such a short space of time. I'm interested to know why - Can anyone explain this to me please?

    2 x Microdiscectomy 2005 / PLIFusion 2-level 2010 / revision surgery 2011 / NEVRO Senza spinal cord stimulator implanted February 2013. I WILL NOT GIVE IN / UP !!
